Guitars Alive V |
Guitars Alive V took place on Saturday, April 14th, 2007. The popularity and reputation of the annual concert had grown to the point that many other schools were requesting space on the stage for their guitar ensembles. So, for this event, two other schools participated besides the usual ensembles and soloists directed by the Guitars Alive producers Philip Candelaria, Paul Dunn and Gary DiSalle.
The MacLeod Public School Intermediate Guitar Ensemble was followed by the Sudbury Secondary Guitar Ensemble and then guest ensembles performed from St. Benedict’s, directed by D’Arcy Closs and from Lasalle Secondary School, directed by Marc Savard. Cambrian College’s Junior, Senior and full Guitar Ensembles were next, and the first half concluded with Bruce Boyer, a student of Philip Candelaria’s in the Laurentian University music program. After intermission, it was the talented Whitely brothers. Chris and Ken Whitely had already appeared on over 150 recordings between them, in a career that spanned over 30 years, with performances across North America and with 5 Juno nominations along the way. Needless to say, the audience was impressed. |
