Guitars Alive VII |
Guitars Alive VII took place on Saturday, April 4th, 2009, at 7:30pm at our home venue: Sudbury Secondary School’s Sheridan Auditorium. As with the past several Guitars Alive events, Sonja Dunn along with her son Paul, did a fantastic job as Emcees, presenting all the ensembles and filling the necessary stage changes with background information and entertaining banter, keeping the energy flowing for the audience. As with last year’s event, there was considerable demand for stage time at Guitars Alive VII. The Sudbury area schools that performed were: Larchwood Public School Guitar Ensemble directed by Janice Farrow, Chelmsford Public School Guitar Ensemble directed by Francine MacDonald and Rob Murphy, Levack Public School Guitar Ensemble directed by Nicole Rocheleau, Sudbury Secondary School Guitar Ensemble directed by Carolyn Otto, Lasalle Secondary School Guitar Ensemble directed by Marc Savard, the Lasalle Bluegrass Trio with Carter Umpherson on banjo, Justin Rideout on guitar and Tamara Rayan double bass, the Cambrian College Guitar Ensemble directed by Philip Candelaria, the Laurentian Jazz Guitar Ensemble directed by Ben Rinaldo, and the Laurentian Jazz Duo of guitarists Justin Carriere and Matt Yzereef.
After intermission, this year’s professional headliners were Kevin Breit, guitar and the Sisters Euclid, consisting of: Ian de Souza on bass, Rob Gusev on keyboards, and Gary Taylor on drums. Kevin is a musician who loves to perform, a virtuoso on the instrument and who, with the Sisters Euclid, has recorded 6 CDs. Again to a full house, Kevin and the Sisters Euclid performed with energy and a program full of colours and rhythm. |
